Hi, Thanks for visiting.
Who are we?
We are 21 and 19 year old sisters, Niya and Amica. We're attending college in Berlin at the moment. We consider ourselves very lucky to have each other and we hope we have something you can get value from on our website.
Our Story
We started this website after we lost our mother to Alzheimer's. The main purpose of this website is to provide educational and improvement content. However on the side, by reading this page, we hope you get at least some information about Alzheimer's and ways to take care your loved ones if they are showing symptoms. In the summer of 2009, our mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 45. She has been showing signs for at least a year before that. So if you or anyone you know is showing these signs it's advised to visit a doctor as soon as possible.
For our mom, at first, it was just short term memory loss. Like forgetting names of people she's known her whole life. Then the more severe memory loss episodes started to happen.
She would forget who we were and started to confuse the rooms in our house. Sometimes, she didn't even recognize herself in the mirror. When the symptoms started to be more concerning, our aunt insisted that we visit the doctor. After the diagnosis, the symptoms only worsened. It was already too late.
And in the summer of 2013, our mom passed away. As you can imagine, this was a devastating and shocking experience for us.
The doctors said the cause was a clot in the lung which was caused by the inability of her body to resist infections. But we couldn't stop thinking we would still have our mom if we advised a doctor sooner. By the time she went to the doctor, the disease was already in the later stages.
We don't want this to happen to anybody else. Alzheimer's is a controllable disease after diagnosis for more than a decade, with the right care and medication. And anyone is able to reduce the risk before it happens.

Our Mission
According to Alzheimer's Association the great majority of people donating, participating in walks and educational seminars are patients, first degree relatives and care givers. We want to include everyone else.
Most of us know very little about Alzheimer's. And we don't wake up until someone dear to us is diagnosed with it or we notice that we could have it.
From 2000 - 2013, deaths from Alzheimer's have increased by 71%. and Many living with Alzheimer's (or at high risk) are not aware of it. There is a wealth of information out there. The problem is, it is only used by those already diagnosed.
